Here at Alla Moda we have no shortage of books, magazines and catalogues from which we gain inspiration, keep up with fashion forward and use to advise our clients and customers. Just recently we managed to lay our hands on a small collection of the Jakob Schlaepfer “Look Book” for the coming season. Jakob Schlaepfer is a 104-year-old fabric/textile company known for their ‘fantasy fabrics’ such as sequined embroidery – innovative, ingenious designs done by the hand of master artisans. The Jakob Schlaepfer House is legendary as the purveyor of haute couture fabrics to such fashion houses as Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs, Vivenne Westood and Christian Lacroix to name a few. In fact there would be hardly a high end fashion show anywhere that doesn’t feature their creations somewhere.
We are quite excited to have a few copies of these “Look Books” in store. So please, pop in if you get a chance and flick through the pages. There are some magnificent designs and creations and they give you a great insight into what’s hot for the coming seasons. And the other good news is we have some of the fabrics in stock. Drop in soon. We’d love to show you in person.

The legendary Swiss fabric house of Jakob Schlaepfer has just sent us this stunning printed silk georgette. If you look carefully you’ll see that they have cleverly incorporated into the design an intricate lace pattern, so that the overall effect is a layering of sensual silk, soft water colour flora and delicate lace. Which all just reinforces what we have been saying – lace is big – even fabric houses that traditionally don’t produce lace are recognizing its place in up to the minute fashion. When you get the opportunity drop in and have a look at this work of art and also check out our range of French laces while you are here. We think you’ll be impressed.
Been out late, lately? Or perhaps just strolling your favouite shopping precinct? Noticed a small revolution in fashion? Lace. It’s appearing everywhere. And not just in traditional white. The great lace houses of Europe like Sophie Hallette and Solstiss are spinning out laces in a bewildering array of colours and designs. Check out any of the iconic couture brands parading the catwalks of the world and you’re bound to see lace being used somewhere in the collections and in the most creative and imaginary ways. We have a stunning collection of laces right here at Alla Moda in exquisite colours from fresh citrus to sky blues to hot pinks. And of course we always stock traditional blacks, whites and creams in standard widths down to finely crafted borders. Drop in sometime soon. We’d love to show off our range.
Recently we were browsing through The Australian’s excellent Wish magazine and we found this beautiful ad for our neighbour here at Alla Moda Emporium, Margot McKinney. It wasn’t just the stunning necklace adorning the model that caught our eye, it was the equally stunning fabric, photographer Sam Theis chose for his background and garment – a luxurious Italian silk satin. Margot has three advertisements in the series each using a different fabric gleaned from our beautiful collection. Keep an eye out for them. And of course you can drop into our store and check them out yourself. Well done Margot and Sam. We love your style.
